The Story of STUFF
From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It’ll teach you something, it’ll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever. http://storyofstuff.org (extracted from youtube)
Found this really interesting video which definitely sums up the reason I’m doing my course. In this day and light and the advancements of the human world, it’s getting increasingly hard to get people to think of the things that they do, that they consume as well as what they waste, throw, etc. Marx calls this a ‘detachment’ of humans from the source of where things come from.
The video is only 20mins and full of important facts that may be much to handle, so if this is too lengthy for you, head over to the main website or youtube page to watch a story thats more specific, i.e. Story of Bottled Water, Story of Electronics.
Hope you guys find it as interesting as I did!
